A Message For The Troops

A few weeks ago I received an unexpected email that completely blew my mind.  It was from a soldier stationed in Afghanistan telling me about how some of the troops listen to my Dj RyB mixtapes when they have some down time.  Check it out:

"I just wanted to write and tell you that your mix tapes and Podcasts have been a huge hit to me and my guys while we have been deployed to Afghanistan for the last 6 months. We try and hold a BBQ every Sunday to forget where we are and enjoy ourselves a little. During these BBQ’s, we have regularly put an iPod into our Bose Portable System and listen to the jams provided by you.

Thanks for taking us away if even for a brief moment and by all means continue throwing more mixes onto the website or iTunes!!!"

WOW!  I didn't even know how to respond at first.  I couldn't believe that somehow my mixes were being enjoyed by soldiers on the other side of the world. That is just unreal!  You never really realize how small the world is until something like that happens to you.  The fact that one of our troops went out of his way to contact me made it that much more incredible.  I still don't understand how they came across my music all the way over in Afghanistan but I'm glad they did.  It totally made my day and I'm glad I could help out in some minor way.

I want to send a special shout out to everyone in B Company, 2nd of the 20th, a National Guard unit out of Glen Arm, MD. I'm glad to hear that I was able to help bring just a little bit of normalcy to your day while you are stationed overseas and fighting for all of us back home.  To be honest, I wish I could do more.  We all know you are working very hard to protect our country and everyone here in the U.S. really appreciates everything you do for us!

Life gets pretty busy and hectic during the holiday season but we should all take some time to think about the Troops overseas and wish them all the best.  Good vibes, prayers and positive thoughts can go a long way and I'm sure they appreciate all the help they can get.  We hope to see you all home very soon!

Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays!

Peace,
Dj RyB
