Jay-Z's Album Covers Recreated - New Rhapsody Commercial (DOPE!)

WOAH!  This might be one of the best commercials I've ever seen.  I'm a little biased because I am a huge Jay-Z fan but you have to admit that it's dope as shit how they recreate every one of his album covers in "real time" all while his new single "Run This Town" is playing in the background. This is an unbelievable idea that was executed perfectly.  SICK!!!

Just a few more weeks to wait before Blueprint 3 drops on September 11th!!!

Jordan Tears It Up at the Kenny Rogers' Classic Celebrity Game 1988 (OLD SCHOOL)

Now this is what you call diggin' in the crates!  This is a classic video clip from Kenny Rogers' Classic Weekend that took place in 1988.  Somehow he was able to get Michael Jordan, Larry Bird and Dominque Wilkins (all in their primes!) to play in this celebrity game.  Not only did they show up but it seems like they were all playing at full speed and trying their hardest to win each game.  So good!

MJ was an absolute beastin this game pulling off some legendary reverse layups and blocking the shit out of anyone that came near the hoop, including the celebrities.  You gotta love how MJ always had that killer instinct and just couldn't shut it off.  He had to win at all times, no matter what he was doing.

Kenny Rogers showed some very surprising and impressive skills by draining a few jumpers and making a real nice pass.  I never expected him to have any athletic ability whatsoever but he was decent.  The fat belly hanging over the shorts was disgusting but very amusing.  He even made a nice drive to the hoop but got swatted hard by MJ who's head looked like it was above the box.  RIDICULOUS! 

I wish celebrity games like this and the MTV Rock N Jock Bball/Softball Jam were still popular or even possible.  Now it seems like pros make too much money and most of their contracts prohibit them from even doing something like this because of the injury risk.

I used to love watching these trainwrecks of an atheletic event.  One of the NBA superstarts would always pull off some sick move or dunk and it was always fun to see what celebrities actually had some game.  If I remember correctly, Steve Urkel (aka Jaleel White) was actually pretty sick and had a nice handle and Justin Timberlake had some decent moves too.  Bring it back MTV!!!

Here's another installment of the Dj RyB Hit Pop series that I put together over the weekend.  I was motivated/bored on Friday night so I also put together Hip Hop Hits Volume 61 that I'll be releasing shortly.  NEW ISH! 

It seems like everything on the radio and in the clubs these days is super uptempo so it keeps getting easier to put together these type of mixes.  I've been getting a lot of positive feedback on iTunes and elsewhere that people love the Hit Pop series because they use it at the gym for their workouts but can also play it at night during a party.  Versatility baby!

Drake - "Forever" Feat Lil Wayne, Eminem And Kanye West (EM KILLS IT)

Here's a hot new track from Drake called 'Forever' featuring a monster lineup of Lil Wayne, Kanye West and Eminem. Drake sounds decent but uses a little too much Autotune on the hook.  Wayne's verse was decent but Kanye's sounded like it was phoned in a little bit.  Eminem was by far the best on the track and absolutely destroyed it with that crazy quick flow.  It's nice to here him getting back to what he's good at which is dope lyrics and unique rhyming patterns. I hope he has buried that awful accent bullshit for good.

Michael Vick's Eagles Debut (DECENT)

I was hoping to catch the Eagles/Jaguars game last night so I could check out Michael Vick's debut but it wasn't on TV.  I thought maybe the NFL network would run it since there was a decent demand for a meaningless pre-season game but I guess they didn't see the value or couldn't get the rights.

Based on the highlights above and from watching SportsCenter this morning, it looks like Vick still has it.  He is obviously rusty and still trying to get back into football shape but he's still got that gun for an arm.  Even the animal rights activists were at a minimum and he even got a standing ovation.  I was definitely not expecting that.  I guarantee the first road game will prove to be much different.

If the Eagles can figure out a way to use him effectively such as playing WR or RB along with coming in as QB, I think they could really be deadly.  I'm definitely looking forward to watching the Eagles this season which is something I would never normally say.

Air Jordan XII "Rising Sun" - White/Black/Varsity Red (FRESH!)

OH DAMN!  These are some of the freshest AJ XII's I've ever seen!  Jordan Brand has been pushing the crazy and non-traditional colorways over the past few years but these new "Rising Sun" joints take it back to the "So Fresh and So Clean" days.  I love all white kicks and these definitely fit that bill.  There are hints of color which add some nice but subtle accents.

I love that Jordan Brand did something different by adding the perforated leather to create the rising sun effect that is similar to the war flag of the Japanese Imperial Army as well as adding the same design to the insoles. 

The Air Jordan XII "Rising Sun" will drop on October 24th for $150.  A few pairs are currently available at RMKStore now.  I'm pretty sure I'll be buying these as a birthday present for myself in the fall.  HOLLA!

Lyric - 'Let the Beat Ride' (TABLE STOMPIN' RHYMES...LITERALLY)

 

DAMN!  This kid Lyric is SICK!  Not only is he nasty with his crazy table stomping, pen tapping beat but his lyrics and flow are on point too.  Dude basically just made a full song with two pens and a table.  Unreal. 

Was that the teacher that walked in right at the very end of the song?  Talk about perfect timing.  I think I heard the class bell too.  Classic!

Bonus points for his super serious intro.  I feel like no one prepares you for their rhymes like this anymore:

Adidas TS Commander LT x Kevin Garnett x Chelsea Football Club (CFC) Pack (CRAZY)

I always find it strange when sports superstars admit that their favorite sport is actually different than the one they get paid to play.  You always assume that pros are playing the sport they love most but it's not always the case.  I posted the other day about Chad Ochocinco's infatuation with soccer.  Kevin Garnett has also admitted his love for the sport many times in the past as well and now Adidas has put together a crazy custom package to reflect that.

It's one thing to hear an NBA player really loves/wants to play baseball (Michael Jordan) or football (LeBron James) but it always blows my mind when I hear soccer is that sport.  I have nothing against the sport itself since I do enjoy it once in awhile but it seems strange because it is so low on the sports totem pole.  It's not like you can just turn on the TV and catch a soccer game everyday.  I don't know.  It just seems weird to me.

Anyway, Adidas has decided to drop a limited edition package that is based on KG's favorite team, the Chelsea Football Club.  A special package will be available at Bodega Boston on August 29th and the kicks will be available nationwide on November 1st.  Here are the rest of the details from Bodega's site:

Bonus points for making me think I was actually watching some new crazy sports talk show "The Steam Room" for half a second.  I guarantee someone is going to steal this name and use it for a new sports show that will premier on ESPN/Fox/Comcast this fall.

'F*** Ed Hardy' - Dirt Nasty Ft. Rich Hill & Andy Milonakis (NECESSARY)

It's about time someone spoke up about the seizure inducing line of clothing that is Ed Hardy.  I just never knew it would be from this random group of clowns.  I just found out that this dude Dirt Nasty is actually the former MTV VJ, Simon Rex.  WTF?!?!  He's actually a fairly decent rapper but I just can't take him seriously which is kind of the point of this "character", I guess.  He actually had a decent hit with a track called "1980" in 2007.  I can't believe I never knew this was Simon Rex but I do recognize this song for some reason:

Andy Milonakis (of Jimmy Kimmel Live & The Andy Milonakis Show fame) raps on this track too and he actually killed it!  At least compared to his old "raps".  He's still super corny with his rhymes but his skills have definitely improved.  I still can't get over the fact that this dude is actually 33 years old even though he looks like he is 15.  Crazy!!! 

 

Can this Ed Hardy crap just go away already?  I've seen way too many white trash douche bags at the gym, in WalMart or the mall wearing this garbage which signifies that the "coolness" level of the Ed Hardy line is officially zero.  I've also seen their extra inventory in Marshall's and other similar stores which is a sure sign that they can't sell their shit clothing at full price anymore.  THANK GOD! 

I can't believe this crap was ever popular in the first place.  It's like someone took a bunch of "hardcore" logos and symbols like skulls, eagles, tigers and other assorted shit, mixed it with some glitter paint, shiny flourecent paint and a BeDazzler and then threw it up all over some shitty quality t-shirts and trucker hats. It's pretty much the worst thing I've ever seen.  I would go as far to say that Zubaz was even cooler than this shit.   Please die ASAP.

This is a hot new track off Jay-Z's Blueprint 3 album called 'Off That' featuring Drake. This is definitely that big radio single/crossover hit that we've come to expect from every Jay-Z album. The beat is sick and Jay kills it with his rhymes and flow, as usual.  He also took advantage of Drake's current popularity which never hurts the cause.  I could see this being on the charts for a long time this fall.  This shit is hot as hell!

Beck's 'Loser' - The Literal Video Version (FUNNY)

I'm already a little sick of the Literal Video phenomenon that have been sweeping the nation lately but that doesn't mean that there still aren't a few gems out there.  I always liked Beck's 'Loser' and the video was always on some trippy shit so it makes sense that someone would finally put this together.

I always cringe when I press play on some of these literal videos because people always think they are funnier than they really are but this one was on point.  I had a few chuckles.  Definitely worth the time to check it out...  

By the way, why is it that people can't come up with anything original these days?  As soon as something becomes popular (especially on YouTube), about a million people just imitate it and beat it into the ground until you can't stand it anymore.  That has always been the case with humans but it's even more apparent on the internet.  Most people are just dumb sheep that follow the heard and have no original thoughts or ideas in their head.  EVER!!!  That is why I hate people!!!  (RANT COMPLETE)

"While I Was Away" - Emails From Some Dudes Psycho Ex-Girlfriend (AWESOME)

UNBELIEVABLE!  This video proves how psycho some (most?) girls can be.  I can't even do it justice so just watch/read the video in it's entirety.  It's 7+ minutes long but you will be completely entertained and the time will fly by. 

I think almost every guy out there can relate to this in some way.  Most of us have dated that CRAZY BITCH at least once in our lives.  It's good for you though. You get it out of your system and her psycho tendencies make you wake up and help you realize exactly what you DON'T want to deal with for the rest of your life.

Chad Ochocinco kicks Extra Point and Kickoff vs. Pats (IMPRESSIVE)

This dude does not mess around!  I have a new found respect for Chad Ochocinco's athletic ability.  Not only did he kick the extra point right down the middle with plenty of distance but he also looked good doing it.  His kickoff was a little uglier because he messed up his steps a bit but he still had a nice kick and got it down to about the 9 yard line.  That's not an easy thing to do.  His Field Goal ended up being the winning points against the Patriots too.   

Ocho mentioned that Soccer is his favorite sport in an ESPN.com article a few years ago.  He actually played both sports through junior high school until he had to choose the best sport for him to go to the next level.
He told the Associated Press after the game: "'Esteban' Ochocinco is back, the most interesting footballer in the world.  Everyone has to remember, I've always said that soccer is my No. 1 sport. I think Ronaldinho would be proud of me right now."  This guy will never cease to amaze me with what he says and does.  Gotta love it. 

In related news, word on the street is that he now wants to change his first name and be known as Estaban Ochocinco!  Dude is tapped but I love him.  He always brings the comedy and is infintely entertaining.  For those of you who have had your head in your ass for the past two NFL seasons, Chad Ochocinco is the artist formerly known as Chad Johnson on the Cincinnati Bengals.

The Jordan vs. Bird McDonald's Commercial (OLD SCHOOL)

Here's another old school Jordan commercial starring the one and only Basketball Jesus, Larry Bird.  This McDonald's Big Mac commercial was by far one of the best and most memorable commercials of the early 90's.  It's definitely a personal favorite and it cracks me up every time I see it. The "acting" is absolutely classic too. You can just see how nervous and uncomfortable Larry Legend was and Jordan was still getting his acting chops up to par so even he looked super awkward.

Even though McDonald's shoved this ad down our throats about 35 times a day for 2 years, it still never got old.  What made it better was that you could believe this game was real for a split second because Jordan and Bird were that damn good.  I would love to see some behind the scenes clips of the shots they pulled off without the special effects. I'm sure anything near the court was doable.   

My favorite line in the whole commercial is when Bird says:
"Off the floor.  Off the scoreboard.  Off the BANKboard.  No Riiiyyyuhmmm."

You gotta love the Hick from French Lick!!!

Air Jordan Schoolin' & Element Ray Allen PE (DOPE C's COLORWAY)

I don't know how these two Ray Allen Player Edition Jordan's fell under the Dj RyB radar but I guess I can't catch then all.  You would think I would be up on my Celtics players kicks related news though.  I need to step my game up!!!

The Air Jordan Element Ray Allen PE was released by Jordan Brand on June 27th exclusively at House of Hoops.  It's a nice looking shoe that has some features that resemble the Air Jordan XI and XVI.  I didn't like previous versions of this shoe that Ray during the 2009 NBA Playoffs because they looked kind of cheap but this colorway is HOT!!!

The high quality black leather with the white stitching and the subtle Celtic Green throughout makes this shoe a great pickup for on or off the court.  The clear sole wrapped around the green herringbone and the Sugar Ray signature on the tongue looks dope too.  I would love to cop these to rock at Celtics games next year to match up with the rest of my Celtics gear.

Ray has been getting a ton of attention from Jordan Brand lately.  The Jordan Schoolin’ Ray Allen PE was released on June 12th at House of Hoops locations as well.  How did I miss both of these?  I'm SLACKIN'!!!
