BMW iPad Holder for Back Seat Viewing (GREAT IDEA)

Photobucket
Oh hell yeah!  This is such a good idea.  I kind of saw this coming when the iPad was first released.  It's the perfect portable computer/TV/Entertainment hub and I just knew someone would figure out a way of getting it in the car sooner than later. There have been a few DIY versions of the iPad mount since it was first announced earlier this year and there was even a custom in-dash mount created that I blogged about a few months ago but now it is official with the BMW version.

Obviously almost everyone would love to have a BMW which would allow you to order this special mount but that's just not feasible for most of us common folk.  So if you want some fairly cheap alternatives, just do a quick Google search for iPad Holder, Car Mount or Cradle and you are bound to find a few options.  I found a few ranging from $40, $75 and $150 which is a hell of a lot cheaper than buying a new BMW.

Best believe that I will be getting myself one of these mounts once I actually purchase an iPad.  I already figured out a ghetto work around to get my iPhone 3G on my dash using one of those suction cup flexible arms so I can watch live TV using the SlinBox app or movies using the NetFlix app.  Relax!  I don't really watch the screen while I'm driving.  I just listen and wait until I get to a red light or stop sign to catch a quick peak.  Honestly...

I thought the iPhone set up was the best I could do but now I can literally get a 9" screen in the ride using the iPad 3G.  That would be insane!  I don't think I have the balls to mount it on my dash like it was shown in a few of those links because I don't feel like getting arrested.  However, I will definitely put it in the backseat in anticipation of the little one on the way growing up to be an easily distracted toddler needing some kind of visual stimulation on long road trips.

I'm all about spending a few hundred bucks for one of these mounts if it keeps the little one quiet for a long period of time.  It's such a better alternative than spending $1-$2K on one of those DVD flip down units that can only show movies and nothing else. I guarantee you are going to see more and more iPads in cars as this concept catches on.  That should happen soon and I plan on being one of the early adopters.

First Ever iPad Installed in Car Dashboard (GREAT IDEA)

I assumed someone would eventually find a way to install an iPad in their car dashboard but I never thought it would literally be the weekend the iPad was released. Some people have no damn patience!  This has been done before with Mac Mini's but the iPad installation might be the simplest way to get a "computer" in your vehicle.

I thought this was a little ridiculous at first but once I actually saw it installed in the dash with access to everything at your fingertips, I realized that this is actually a perfect usage of the iPad. It brings music and video to your vehicle at a very affordable price. Most in-dash flip screen receivers with DVD players usually cost about $1-$2K and they don't even show video unless you are parked. A Mac Mini is around the same price as an iPad but you need a separate screen which is probably going to be another $500.  Having a touch screen in your dash for $500 (plus a custom installation if you can't do it yourself) is just unreal!

As everyone probably knows by now since the iPad has been in the news non-stop for the past week, you can listen to Pandora, use iTunes, watch YouTube, search the internet or use any of the thousands of Apps.  Being able to do that right from the driver's seat of your car makes the iPad that much cooler.  It's like you are stretching your iPhone and sticking it in the dash of your car instead of keeping it on the seat or a window mount where you can barely see the screen. How can you not love this idea?

The two issues I see (other than the obvious distraction of keeping your eyes off the road) are the glare on the super reflective screen and the lack of 3G internet (on this particular unit at least). The iPad in this video has to be WiFi only since the 3G iPad doesn't come out for a few more weeks. That means that you can only use a fraction of it's functionality unless you are within range of a free WiFi signal.

I'm not sure why the dude who is getting this installed in his vehicle didn't wait for the 3G model but maybe they have some other internet options or just have no patience. There are some mobile internet options for your vehicle but they are a little cost prohibitive for most people.  I guess you could technically set up a signal from your laptop with a 3G card but that seems like a pain in the ass and it's just one more thing you have in your car that can be stolen.  The internet options on the 3G iPad are really affordable ($14.99 per month for 250 MB data and $29.99 for unlimited data plan) so that is probably the best way to go with an in-dash installation like this, as long as it can still catch a strong signal in the dash of the car.  We won't know if that's possible for at least a few more weeks.

I also hope this guy has an easy way of docking the iPad so the owner can take it in and out of the dash to take it out of the car because otherwise, he is just asking for someone to break in and steal it.  I'm sure I will be posting Part 2 once the installation is complete because I am really curious how this will all work out.  I need to do this!  So sick!

Hitler Reacts to Jersey Shore Season 2 Not Being Filmed In N.J. (CLASSIC)

You tell them, Hitler!  WTF was MTV thinking?  How can you film a show called JERSEY SHORE in a state other than New Jersey?!?!?  Ridiculous!  It's like the Chewbacca Defense.  It does not...make...sense.  Can a show jump the shark before it even begins filming the next season?  Brutal.

The "Hitler Reacts To" parodies are probably getting a little old for some people out there since there are literally hundreds of versions but I just can't get enough of them. Hit the jump for a few more of my favorites.

Pee Wee Herman Gets an iPad (RANDOM)

Pee Wee Herman and his Playhouse peeps breaking down the new Apple iPad might seem a little strange and completely random but I actually kind of enjoyed it.  It wasn't necessarily that funny but it did have it's moments.  I defintiely had some flashbacks to the good old days when I would watch Pee Wee's Playhouse with a bowl of Fruity Pebbles on a Saturday morning.  I used to love that freakin' show!

Now that I've seen this video, I think I'd rather have Globey than the iPad.  He can provide maps and music at the same time.  The iPad can't do that.  Globey rocks!

"Aruba!  That's over heeeyah! Jamaica!  That's over heeeyah!"

The crew at College Humor also took a swipe at the new iPad.  This was pretty funny too:
