iPhone 4 Commercial - The Deleted Scenes (FUNNY)

This video probably could have been cut in half and would have been a lot better but it's still pretty funny.  The hype is ridiculous for the iPhone 4 so a video like this was kind of expected.  This time the hype is real though.  That phone is so nasty! I was going to wait a few months to upgrade but I don't know if I can hold off.  As soon as I see someone with it in their hand for the first time, I am going to be mad jealous...

Apple iPhone 4 FaceTime Commercial (INTENSE)

How can you not want an iPhone 4 after watching this commercial for the new FaceTime app?!?!  This shit is unbelievable!  I think it just got a little dusty up in my cube.  That was intense.

I'm not going to bother writing up a summary of the new phone because it's been done ad nauseam elsewhere but in case you lived under a rock and haven't heard about it's new features, here is another commercial (below) that gives a quick summary of what you can expect.

The new iPhone 4 goes on sale this Thursday, June 24th.  Good luck getting one though.  It sold out in one day online and there will probably be limited quantities available in stores for at least a few weeks or even months.

I'm eventually going to get one but I'll wait until my iPhone 3G craps out on me.  I don't expect that to be any time soon since it still works like a champ.  I might break down in a few months when I start getting phone envy of anyone that owns the new one.  I'll try and hold off as long as I can but it's going to be tough....

50 Cent And Vitamin Water Launch ''50's Sound Lab'' iPhone App - Remix "Baby By Me" (COOL)

50 Cent and Vitamin Water just realeased a new iPhone App which allows you to remix his new hit single "Baby By Me".  50's Sound Lab allows you to remix and rearrange all elements of "Baby By Me" and then upload and share your creation on Facebook, email or www.50SoundLab.com. Fiddy is also adding a contest component to the app and is offering the winner of the best remix a chance to fly to NY and hang out with him in the studio and show off their production skills. The app will be available for as long as it takes for 50 Cent to pick a winner. I sound like 50 has until February 16th, 2010 to pick a winner.

This app was created using Moderati's Romplr remix platform which was also used in Soulja Boy's Re-Mix app.  Reviews have been positive so far since the app is fairly easy to use but has a lot of the versatility you would find in a real audio remixing program. I am downloading this app as I type and I'm sure I will be messing around with it all night.

"Hip Hop All-Star" - DJ Scratch & Beat Matching iPhone App (SICK)

"Hip Hop All-Star" is a cool new iPhone App that allows you to scratch and beat match in a way similar to Tap Tap Revenge.  If you've never played that game, just think of Guitar Hero or Rock Band (and now DJ Hero) for your iPhone where you hit colored buttons in time with the beat.  It's definitely a fun and simple concept that works well on the small screen.  You can also do head to head DJ battles with anyone that has the same app on their iPhone.  Nice!

This particular app is getting a big push because it's being backed by some big names in Hip Hop like Busta Rhymes, Kid Cudi, DJ Green Lantern and Kool G Rap to name a few.  You can also download a "Track Pack" to add more songs if you wear out the originals that are included with the App.

I've been waiting for something like this for the iPhone for awhile now.  I've already downloaded it and test it out a little bit and I have a feeling this is going to help me waste a lot of time in the next couple of months.  This is gonna be mad addicting!

"I Am T-Pain" iPhone App Lets You Sing Along with AutoTune (NOT BAD)

I Am T-Pain

Although the new iPhone app "I Am T-Pain" is probably about a year too late to the market since Jay-Z officially declared D.O.A., it's still tearing up the Paid iPhone Apps charts at #3 right now.

I will give the makers of the app (Smule) some  serious props for putting out a fairly solid product for the low price of $2.99.  It's not perfect as you are obviously limited by the power of the iPhone software and the shitty microphone but it works surprisingly well for it's limited capabilities.

You have to plug in headphones or a line out to your stereo in order to hear yourself and then you also need to try and hold the phone so you can read the lyrics and also sing close to the mic.  It's not the best case scenario but it works fairly well.  The quality through your speakers is actually decent but you lose some of that once you set a recording.  Hopefully they can tweak it a bit with some future updates.

Oh what, you think I would do a review without actually using the app?  Come on now!  I downloaded that ish the second I heard about it!  We all have that inner T-Pain where you want to be an R&B singer but you can't sing for shit.  Now this is the solution!  Maybe I'll post up one of the joints I recorded with it for your listening "pleasure".  Actually, that's probably a really bad idea.  I actually want you coming back to my site...

If Jay-Z didn't make D.O.A. (Death of Autotune) official, this app certainly will.  Now every one and their grandmother (literally; please see video above) can rock out and create their own version of "Buy You A Drank".  Yikes.

If you are interested in buying it for yourself, click on the iTunes link below to go directly to the app's page and help me make a few cents in the process.  Gracias!

SlingPlayer Mobile for iPhone Now Available but WiFi Only (FINALLY)

I've been waiting for the SlingPlayer Mobile for the iPhone for over 2 years now and it's finally here.  The problem is, I'm not as excited as I thought I would be once it finally available.  The iPhone SlingPlayer works great, looks awesome and is one of the coolest things you could ever buy for your iPhone.  Even though it's a $30 App, it's well worth the money if  you are looking for a way to watch live TV on your iPhone and already own a SlingBox at home.  This gives you yet another way to use your SlingBox from anywhere.  Well, almost anywhere...
The main problem is that it's WiFi only.  WTF?!?!  Are you kidding me?  It's like I just bought a Ferrari with a Honda engine because the dealer doesn't want anyone to drive over 70 or something ridiculous.  This is definitely not Sling Media's fault since the SlingPlayer Mobile already exists for many other smartphones and can run on almost every 3G network.  They were at the mercy of Apple and AT&T.

This can partially be blamed on Apple since they have the final say on all Apps in the iTunes store but most likely, AT&T demanded Apple and SlingPlayer set the app to WiFi only.  AT&T probably requested this because they know their 3G network sucks and that if thousands of people downloaded this app and used it on 3G on a regular basis, it would cripple their network and give them even less reliability than normal (if that's even possible).

This is SO ANNOYING!  Hopefully this opens up to 3G support at some point down the road through an update but I'm not holding my breath.  This is still a great App and I think it's worth the $30 but it's going to be tough for a lot of people to justify that price point without being able to use it anywhere outside of their home or office or maybe a Starbucks.  There are plenty of free WiFi spots available throughout larger cities but it's just not the same as being able to walk or drive anywhere and be able to watch TV continuously.

I've already noticed that this App is getting an average of 3 stars in the review section even though it's definitely a 5 star app had it worked with 3G as well.  I am both super excited and disappointed at the same time.  I guess we will just have to wait and see.  I am kind of used to it at this point...

Apple Releases iTunes 8.1 and iTunes DJ Feature (COOL)

Photobucket
Apple released iTunes 8.1 last night with some much needed performance updates and a few extra features.  It used to take iTunes forever to load, especially if you had a large library of songs.  I have about 80 GB of music and movies on my MacBook and it probably took a good 30-45 seconds to get going.  That doesn't seem like a lot but it is an eternity when you just want to start playing some music.  It was painful.  I haven't downloaded the new version yet but based on comments I've seen in other articles, people are seeing a shift from 30-40 seconds to as little as 7 seconds to load now with iTunes 8.1.  That is a HUGE improvement.
Photobucket
The other interesting update was the addition of the iTunes DJ feature which was formerly named Party Shuffle (which SUCKED).  iTunes DJ allows guests to request songs with the Remote app using their iPhone or iPod Touch.  The Remote app allows them to find your iTunes library through WiFi.  Once they are connected, they can search your library of songs and pick which song to play next or add to the queue.  If there are enough people with either device, they can also vote a song up or down in the queue.  This will keep wack song selections to a minimum if the rest of your party has a clue about good music.

I'm not sure how much I like the idea of this feature since I am a DJ myself and would prefer to control the music and mix at my own parties but of course I do have the option to just shut it off. It's a control thing but also a trust factor since most people have TERRIBLE tastes in music but a lot of non-DJ's will probably like this addition.  It will help lazy people and/or nerds with no clue about music step their party up a bit and it will also bring a fun factor that might have been lacking at their lame wine and cheese party.

You will need to allow guests to access to your WiFi so you may need to remove your password for a night.  It should be worth it though since it will be a really cool addition to the party and can get everyone talking about music which can be fun and scary all at the same time.  Just pray that you don't have any Phish or Dead Head Freaks in the crowd or they will go on and on about some 40 minute jam session bootleg they downloaded from some dude in Germany.  Freakin' hippies!

For parties/BBQ's where it's just a chill atmosphere and I don't feel like putting together a huge playlist or have time to pre-mix tracks, this will be perfect.  A lot of my friends are lame and still don't have an iPhone or iPod Touch so it may not always work but it still could be cool if I just allowed people to select songs by using my iPhone.  That way I can relax and drink some beers and not worry about the music so much.  That always stresses me out, even when I'm not at my own house.  I can't stand crappy music at a party.  This could defintiely be a way for me to fix that problem at wack parties now!  FINALLY!  Let's just hope they have a few decent songs in their iTunes library.  Wack music libraries cannot be fixed by this update, unfortunately.

Sling Player App for iPhone To Drop in Q1? (Crossing Fingers)

Please let this be true!  Gizmodo is reporting that the Sling Player App for the iPhone is almost complete and should be sent to Apple for approval for the App Store at some point in Q1.  Although there have been rumors of this for months and even a demo video floating around since June (see above), I still won't believe it until it's featured in the iTunes App Store.  There has just been too much hype and too many delays for me to get excited about this again but any time I hear some news, I just flip out.  Believe me, this thing is F'n cool and worth the excitement.  I don't care if the App ends up being $30 like many people are guessing, I will still be buying it immediately after it's released.

If you are unfamiliar with the SlingBox, it's a freakin' awesome gadget that connects to any video device such as your cable box or DVD player and then "slings" the video signal through an ethernet connection across the internet to your Sling Player software located on a computer or phone.  Basically, you are watching and controlling your TV at home from anywhere that has an internet connection.  It's pretty much the coolest gadget I have ever purchased.  I have been showing it off and amazing people for a good 2 years now.  It never gets old because so few people even realize this technology is possible.

I currently have the Sling Player software on my laptop at home and computer at work.  Although I don't use it often at work, it's great for nights I need to stay late, mornings I want to catch SportsCenter, early games of the NCAA tournament or Red Sox opening day.  I use it home as a portable TV to take outside on the back deck during the summer to catch a game or even bring it in to the bathroom while I take a shower or whatever I might be doing in there for a long period of time.  It's pretty much the best thing ever.  And it's all FREE!!!  No monthly subscription.

I used to have SlingPlayer Mobile on my Motorola Q before I got the iPhone, so I was able to watch TV anywhere I was located, even if I didn't have a wifi signal.  If I was being dragged to some awful store or party by my girlfriend, I could always sneak away and catch a few minutes of the Celtics or Sox.  It came in handy many times for important games, such as the 2007 World Series.  I was in Cali for a wedding and didn't have access to a TV and missed almost every game but I was able to watch Game 3 along with some other Boston folks over in the corner so that the ladies and bride didn't see us and get pissed.  That kind of shit is priceless.  If you are a big sports fan like myself, I highly recommend you get the SlingBox and SlingPlayer Mobile for your smartphone ASAP.

As I mentioned, I've been missing the mobile aspect of the Sling Player since I got the iPhone and I would LOVE IT if I could get it back again.  I have zero issues with the iPhone except for this one missing killer app.  Make it happen soon, fellas!  I promise to both Apple and Sling Media that this will increase sales for both of your products immensely.  There are thousands of people out there that own either the SlingBox or iPhone and are waiting to make a purchase of the other one as soon as this App is available.  Sounds like a no brainer to me...

Walmart to Sell $99 4GB iPhone

Photobucket
This is kind of crazy but we should have seen it coming.  Apple and Walmart are working together to take over the world...or at least the cellphone world.  Rumor has it that Apple is planning on offering a 4GB $99 version of the popular iPhone within the next couple of months.  Although Walmart doesn't exactly match the Apple brand in terms of coolness, the relationship does make sense if it's about selling a massive amount of units.  Walmart is by far the biggest and most powerful distribution chain in the world and can get products into the hands of millions of people across a wide area of states and countries.

Apple was missing that hugely popular price point of $99 for cellphones and putting this version in a "discount" retailer actually makes a little sense so that it doesnt' take away from the branding of the "higher-end" line in their own retail stores.  I have a ton of friends that felt that the current 8GB $199 and 16GB $299 versions were just too expensive for their budget even though they really wanted the phone.  I love the looks on people's faces when I show them what the iPhone is capable of doing and all of the cool apps that are available.  It's like a mini-computer in your hands at all times.  The $99 version will absolutely take Apple to the next level and make them one of the most popular cellphone brands (even more than they are currently) within the next couple of years.  This could be one of the best decisions Apple has made in a long time and that's saying something.  Almost all of their decisions have been perfect lately...

Google Mobile App for iPhone Now with Voice Search - DOPE!

This is definitely one of the coolest iPhone Apps that I've seen to date.  Although the Google Mobile App has been available since the inception of the App Store, it will be receiving a nice facelift in the next few days with the addition of voice recognition based search.   Voice recognition on cellphones has been available for awhile but most programs have sucked to date and they definitely didn't let you search the internet.

If this ends up working even half as good as they show in this video tutorial, then I will be using this every day.  I have the Google App now but I barely use it since I tend to just go right to Safari to type in a search or access Google Reader.  As much as I love my iPhone, I wish there was a quicker way to search for things on the web though and this might fit the bill.  This will probably save a ton of time by not having to type out the search.  I know that sounds lazy but I have some big thumbs and I always tend to misspell words using the touch screen keypad.  Half the time I don't even realize I made an error until I have already done the search and then I have to start over.  It's not the worst thing in the world but it's still annoying.  Any shortcut I can take throughout the day to make my life easier will always be useful.

It sounds like Apple dropped the ball on release of this super cool App though.  Google did a lot of press and promotion of it at the end of last week because they thought it was supposed to be available in the App store on Friday.  Now we are hearing that today is the day it will be released but I still haven't seen it in the available.  I've checked a few times and don't see the new feature available yet.  Weak ish Apple!  You are missing out on a big opportunity and the potential to increase iPhone sales since this App will be in very high demand and could cause a lot of people to finally switch over from a Blackberry or other competitors.  Get after it, suckas!

SICK!! - Making Beats on the iPhone 3G with Beat Maker

Henny makes beat on iPhone 3G using Beatmaker!!! from Henny on Vimeo.
I need to get this program ASAP!!! Beat Maker is only $20 (although more than most apps for the iPhone) and it seems like it is worth every penny based on this video review from www.ThaBizness.com. Although you probably wouldn't use this program to create a complete track, it seems perfect for creating beat and song ideas while you are away from your computer, traveling on the road or just need something to pass the time.

I just picked up the new iPhone 3G last weekend and it is unbelievable. Yes, I stood in line for an hour and a half like an uber nerd but I don't care. I love my gadgets almost as much as I love my sneakers. I had to have it and couldn't deal with waiting another week and I had nothing else to do so why not stand in line with a bunch of geeks at the mall while everyone walks by you making weird faces?

It wasn't bad considering it was the second day of release (Saturday) and the line wasn't really that long. I'm glad I made the purchase because there are rumors of serious shortages on the iPhone now, potentially up to a month (depending on your locations current supplies). It's like having a mini computer in your pocket at all times. I have barely put this thing down other than to work, eat and sleep. This is probably the best purchase I have made in years. No joke.

Here's another review with some more detailed looks at Beat Maker:
