Rivalry?!?! Hawks.com A Little Too Excited About C's vs. Atlanta Tonight

This is just fantastic!  I can't believe the Hawks OFFICIAL website had the balls to put up a video touting the "rivalry" between the Celtics and Hawks tonight in Atlanta.  Did you really need to poke the bear?  The C's are off to a 23-2 start and are playing out of their minds but they haven't had too many games that they had to get fired up for this season.  This just seems like a bad idea for Atlanta to add fuel to the fire since the C's don't really need any more motivation.  Do they want KG's head to explode this early in the season?  He may end up pulling his heart right out of his chest and eat it before the start of this game.  Just be warned, Atlanta.

The best part of this video is the quote from Kevin Garnett "I wouldn't call it a rivalry".  I couldn't agree more my man.

I do have to give the Hawks some credit though.  They were very tough last year in Round 1 of the Playoffs and gave it everything they had to get it to 7 games.  I really thought they were going to pull off the upset at one point with the way they were playing but luckily the Celtics woke up and absolutely destroyed them in Game 7.  The rest of the series was definitely scary, as Josh Smith and Al Horford were blocking shots left and right and Joe Johnson was virtually unstoppable on offense.

Mike Bibby really set it off though with his comments about Boston fans being bandwagon jumpers.  That really got everyone fired up in the stands and he got booed every time he touched the ball.

“It’s good that they know I’m here,” said Bibby, who along with teammate Josh Smith did some verbal sparring with the crowd while walking out of the arena after their team’s 23-point loss. “It was just a little confrontation to get them involved a little bit. But they are fair-weather fans if you ask me.”

At another stage Bibby said, “They were kind of loud in the beginning, but a lot of those fans are bandwagon jumpers trying to get on this now. I played here last year, too (with the Sacramento Kings), and I didn’t see three-quarters of them. They’re for the team now and they might get a little rowdy, but that’s about it.

I guess this is when the series got personal and everyone got chippy, including both sets of fans.  It even got us fired up enough to create this poster you see above of Bibby's face on a target.  My boy Richie had this made at Kinko's the day of the game and spent like $80!!!  We didn't even get on the JumboTron or TV with it (what more do you need to do?) but he did get mad props walking around with it displayed on his back before the game.

It was an intense series but you need years of tough games and series to create the hatred that develops into a rivalry (see Los Angeles Lakers).  I guess they don't have much to get excited about down there these days so they are defintiely taking this more seriously than anyone from Boston.  This will be a good game, I'm sure but it's not going to be anything close to last year, at least at this point in the season.

This game is so big for Atlanta that they were even able to land Ludacris to perform at halftime.  That's pretty impressive right there.  We can only land the Chinese lady that balances a tall unicycle with one foot while she throws dishes from her other foot and catches them on her head.  Actually, that is pretty good now that I think of it.  That has to be one of my favorite halftime acts.  But Ludcaris would be pretty cool too.
This will be a very intense game tonight so I recommend you check in to watch.  Ray Allen thinks it will be a playoff atmosphere and I think it will, at least for the first half.  I am pretty sure the Celtics will not disappoint and will pull off another nice win.
