Shaq and Grant Hill Want to Buy the Orlando Magic?
It sounds like Shaquille O'Neal and Grant Hill are looking to collaborate as "teammates" in a different way as their careers start to wind down in the next few years. According to an article in the Sacramento Bee, Shaq and Hill would like to own their former NBA team, the Orlando Magic, once they retire from the NBA.
It sounds crazy at first but if anyone has the money, it would be Shaq because of his humongous contracts and endorsements over the years. That guy has to be worth at least $500 million on his own and that might be a conservative estimate. Hill isn't any slouch in making dollars either as he is probably worth around $100-200 million on his own. Combined, they could probably come up with the full amount to purchase the Magic on their own but they would most likely have an investment group backing them as they act as the figure heads for the deal but I am sure they would be investing quite a bit of dough themselves. The Seattle Supersonics sold for about $350 million just a few years ago so I assume the Magic's price would be at least $500 million but that is just a guess. Either way, they can come up with it.
I think it's an interesting move and would be a great long term investment for both. There's no way that this franchise would ever go down in value. It's kind of crazy to think that the athletes are starting to take over the league in ownership roles instead of just the typical Coach/GM/minor investor roles of the past.
While we're here, let's take a look at some of the classic kicks that both of them rocked earlier in their careers. Reebok's Shaq Attaq 1 with the Pump were by far my favorite out of this group with the original Fila Grant Hill 1 or VB '95 as it's now known in the Retro form, following in a close second. These were both fly balling kicks back in the early 90's if you weren't wearing Jordans, Nike or Adidas.
