Celtics Raise Banner 17 Tonight in Season Opener vs. Cavs

Time to get fired up!  The Celtics open up the NBA season tonight as defending champions for the first time in 22 years.  I think there is a 110% chance that they will repeat this season.  Honestly, this shit is a wrap.  I just don't see any teams out there that can give them any major trouble in the playoffs or Finals.  As long as everyone stays healthy, there's no reason why they can't improve on their record from last year and make it two championships in a row.  Just think about how much more chemistry they will have together after being together for a championship season.  Unreal!

A lot of the same heads in the media that were predicting the Lakers would win last season are saying the same thing this season.  Dumb.  Just because Bynum is back doesn't mean that they improved enough to beat the C's.  We are in their heads now and all of their sissy Europeans will just back down when times get tough.  Man I hate that team.  I still can't believe it all went down like that last season  but we've officially come full circle like it's the 80's all over again.  I felt like I was 8 years old again kickin' it in the original Boston Garden.  I'll be rockin' my Beat LA shirt all season long!  And you know this...

To start the season off right, I went to a special showing of a new movie about the Celtics Championship season called "Return To The Rafters: A Celtic Return To The Top Of The Game".  Check out a short preview at their site.  Although this is a DVD, they played it at Showcase Cinemas across the state for one night to help celebrate the start of the season and the raising of Banner 17.  It was a nice way to get pumped for this season to start as we relived the entire '07-'08 season in just an hour and a half.  The movie follows a few crazy fans throughout the ups and downs of the season, as well as some great off the court interviews and shots of the Celtics players.  I highly recommend buying this movie if you are looking to add to your Championship video collection.  You can never have too many!

I might as well make my predictions for the season now.  The Celts ended up with a 66-16 record last season.  Although it will be tough to improve on such a fantastic season, I think they are going to end up with 70-12 record.  Why not?  Let's do the damn thing.

The Big Three will obviously be the reason why this team succeeds but there are many other guys that will have key roles to this teams success.  Rondo and Perkins are officially veterans and will be expected to improve even more this season.  There are no more excuses for being young for either of them.  They have the experience now and need to build on that.  I see no reason why there will be any issues with either of them, although Perkins tends to get injured a lot.  Let's hope his shoulder healed up well over the summer.

I am really looking for Powe, House, T. Allen and Big Baby Davis (BBD) to take over the second unit and allow the starters to get a lot of rest throughout the season to stay fresh for the playoffs.  House has been unreal in the preseason and could end up with the most points per minute in the league if he keeps shooting that way.  Powe already has a game named after him after completely demolishing the Lakers on his own in Game 2 of the Finals.  I think that is just what he needed to get his confidence to a point where he knows he belongs in this league.  This kid is special.  Look for him to potentially be Most Improved Player for the entire NBA.  T. Allen is a crapshoot because of that knee and his crazy ADD play on the court but I am starting to see signs of the old Tony where he was scoring at will and making sick defensive plays right before his knee injury.  I still want to see this guy succeed and I think he can still be a solid player in this league.  The potential is there.  He just needs to get more consistent.  BBD showed us that size doesn't matter since he can get up and down the court with the the skinny guys but can defend the taller players because of his width. He has that knack for getting to the rim to score or get boards whenever they're needed.  He should get even more PT this season if Doc is smart. We need to make sure he develops for the future.

I think the one guy that could really surprise some people across the league is Bill Walker.  It might be hard for him to make his way into this deep lineup but if he gets his chance, I am sure he won't disappoint based on some of his exciting play in the preseason.  He reminds me a lot of Posey without the 3 point range in the sense that he can play some serious D and be an energy guy off the bench.  If there are any injuries throughout the season, I am sure he will get his chance.

That's about all I have for now and that was by far my longest post to date.  As you can tell, I am fired up about the Celtics and you can expect many more posts similar to this throughout the season.  LET'S GO CELTICS!  (clap clap, clap clap clap)
