Steve Nash's "Trash Talk" Kicks - The Shoes Made of Trash

Photobucket

Steve Nash was wearing his Trash Talk shoes last season so this isn't exactly breaking news but I never put a post up about it at Thirsty13 as I intended so I figured I would drop some knowledge over here.  Better late than never.

The video above is from a newsletter I get from the ad industry publication AdAge and it set the wheels in motion.  Nike Senior Creative Designer for Running Shoes Kasey Jarvis explained how the idea took shape and how the limited resources of actual sneaker waste became the source of a new hit sneaker.  That is a genius idea and I am surprised it was never done before considering how much money must be literally thrown away with excess but previously unusable materials.  Nike is making a big push towards becoming a Greener company and this is another step in that direction for their "Considered" line of products.

I also never realized that Steve Nash shot a commercial for this shoe and he even played a major role by producing it through his own production company, Meathawk:

"I have such a passion for watching films and now, that passion is being transferred into filmmaking. After starting my own production company, Meathawk, this seemed like the perfect time and place for me to make a short film to increase environmental awareness through the promotion of the Trash Talk," said Nash.

I thought it was a pretty cool remix of the Six Million Dollar Man that uses "recycling" parts as it's theme.  Nice cameos by Amare Stoudemire and Raja Bell, as well. No word on whether there will be a newer version or style of the the shoe this season but based on it's popularity, I am sure it will be coming soon.  You can read more about this new endeavor in the description of the video on YouTube.

UPDATE: Here are a few pics of the All-Star Game colorway he wore last year that I found after my original post.  These are dope with the gold laces and slightly more color to the design.  Solid!
