Jay-Z Concert Intro: "Run This Town" & "D.O.A." in Providence (SICK!)

As I mentioned last week, I was lucky enough to get tickets to the Jay-Z concert in Providence, RI on October 24th as a birthday present from the wifey.  That was definitely one of the best birthday presents I've ever received because the show was SICK!!!

J Cole opened up with a few songs no one's ever heard but he sounded good and has some potential to get bigger in the next couple of years.  Wale came out next and did a fairly short but decent set, although his audio levels were a little F'd up and his songs weren't very clear.  I almost didn't recognize his hit single "Chillin'" because it was so muffled but what are you gonna do.  The opening acts always get screwed on audio levels because they are set for the larger acts later in the show.

N.E.R.D. did a good, high energy set and I really don't have any complaints other than I felt like it could have been a little longer.  They have a lot of DL hits that people recognize but I feel like they didn't get a chance to play them all.  They definitely killed their set though.

I really don't need to say this but Jay-Z absolutely killed it with his set.  He had a full 10 piece band which gave every song new life with that incredible live energy.  Even old songs felt new again because it was such a cool and unique "remix" of the original.

The set was definitely heavy on the Blueprint 3 songs but that was expected since he is on tour to promote the album.  He opened up with 'Run This Town' and 'D.O.A.' as you can see in the video above.  He continued on with a few other BP3 tracks and then took it old school for about a half hour when he weaved between quick shots of numerous hits.  He didn't dig as deep into his catalogue as I've seen him do in the past but I wasn't disappointed at all.  It was nice hearing more songs from the last 3 albums just because I haven't seen him live in a few years.  It was like I was seeing him again for the first time since I didn't know what was coming next and hadn't heard a lot of the songs live before

I'll be putting some more videos up later this week as I finish loading them all to YouTube.  I caught about a half hour worth of songs so I have plenty more to put up.  Luckily the Kodak Zi6 HD camcorder recorded some solid video and the audio was very clear considering how loud it was in the Dunkin' Donuts Center.  It was a pain in the ass at the time but it's nice having this stuff on hand so I can relive the show any time I want.
If you have a chance to catch Jay-Z anywhere that's remaining on the tour, I implore you to do so.  You will not be disappointed.
