NBA Opening Night: Celtics vs. Cavs (FINALLY!)

The NBA season officially begins tonight.  It's about damn time!  I need some more sports during the week to keep my lazy ass happy.  It's nice having football on the weekends but I need my hoops fix.  The new NBA on ESPN ads have been playing non-stop for the last week or so which has gotten me all fired up too.  I love this new one with Blake Griffin (above) getting heat from the guys.  It's kind of funny that Kevin Love is in the Winnebago pulling the same prank they got him on last year.  I love these f'n commercials!

On a somewhat related note, Blake Griffin has already felt the wrath of the Clippers Curse.  It sounds like Blake broke his kneecap (how the F do you do that by the way?) and will be out for 6 weeks.  DAMN SON!  Dude can't catch a break.  That's not too bad considering how ridiculous that injury sounds but it's not good to miss any time as a Rookie.  I think Griffin is going to be a Beast in this league in a few years so I hope he has a speedy recovery and this doesn't set him back too much.

The game that I'm obviously most interested in tonight is the Cavs vs. Celtics.  This is a HUGE match up for opening night and these two teams should be fighting it out all season for the top rank in the East.  It's only the first game of the season so I'm not sure if we will be able to decide who is better but it will be fun to see how they matchup with all of the new additions.

The Cavs went crazy this offseason and signed or traded for a bunch of new players including Shaquille O'Neal, Jamario Moon, Anthony Parker and former Celtic Leon Powe.  I feel like they added too many people which could cause chemistry and playing time issues but that is a good problem to have (unless your name is Doc Rivers).  They are a lot more stacked than they have ever been in the past and they are going to be a super tough team to beat all year long.

The Celtics added a few pieces of their own, most notably the addition of Rasheed Wallace.  They now have a Big 4, although Sheed will be coming off the bench as the 6th man, at least to start the season.  I have a feeling we'll be seeing Sheed starting at some point once Perkins gets hurt or starts getting into too much foul trouble.  I do like having the versatility of big guys who can play multiple positions.  There is no reason why they can't put out a starting lineup at some point of Perk, Sheed, KG, Pierce and Ray Allen.  That would just be SICK!

The addition of Marquis Daniels and to a lesser extent, Sheldon Williams, should help the second unit/bench as well.  This will be sorely needed because we just caught news last night that Glen "Big Baby" Davis may be out for anywhere from 6-8 weeks, a few months or even the whole season.  WTF!!!

It is rumored that he got in an off court fight with a former teammate and may have fractured his thumb.  Dude.  Not cool.  You just signed a nice new contract and you are pulling this crap?  What an idiot. He is totally screwing the C's over some bullshit.  Now Sheldon Williams is actually going to get some decent minutes which isn't necessarilly what the Celtics need or want right now.  This should be interesting.

Although the game is in Cleveland tonight, I'm expecting the C's to be all fired up and steal the opener to shock the Cleveland crowd.  KG will have the C's ready to take a bullet now that he is back from his knee injury.  I have a feeling this is going to feel like a playoff game on Day 1.  Get fired up!!!
