The Roots - 'How I Got Over' (OFFICIAL VIDEO)

If I hadn't heard Black Thought singing on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon recently, their new track 'How I Got Over' would have completely blown my mind when I heard it for the first time. Actually, it still did because it is just a great song on so many levels.  It's got a little bit of Funk, Rock, R&B and Hip Hop which should make it accessible to almost anyone that appreciates original music.  You can't ask for much more.

I never knew he could sing like that but he should do it more often because he sounds great.  Black Thought has some serious skills even though he is most often considered "just a rapper".  If you've ever seen them do a live show, you'll know that he is much more than that.  He can mimic almost any artist in Hip Hop that's out there these days and I think he can even play a few instruments.  Dude has incredible musical talent.  Period.

This is a hot video too.  It sends a strong socially conscious message that you rarely see in music videos these days.  The visuals go along with the song perfectly.  I can't remember the last time I saw a video that actually made sense or went along with the song's message (if it even had one).  The Roots always seem to do it right.

The Roots new album How I Got Over is set to drop on October 20th which just happens to be my birthday.  Thanks Roots!!!  That's the best gift you could give me right there.  Dope new music!!!
