Jay-Z - "On To The Next One" Live & The History of "Hard Knock Life" (COOL)

Lots of Jay-Z heat in this post. First, we have a live performance of "On To The Next One" from the BBC's Friday Night With Jonathan Ross. You don't see Jigga performing on late night talk shows like this in the U.S. very much these days so it's cool to see him in front of such a small crowd like this.

Next up are two somewhat random videos from a Swedish TV show documenting the history of Jay-Z's smash single "Hard Knock Life (Ghetto Anthem)".  It's actually a really cool look at how the song was created, how Jay stumbled across the beat at a concert by accident and then how it almost never got released because Lyor Cohen didn't think it was a Def Jam worthy song.

You can tell that Jay was a little thrown off at first talking so in depth about just one song but once he got going you could see the wheels turning in his head as he started to realize how important it was to his career.  He never considered it one of his Top 10 records before but this interview might have changed his mind.

The first video has a decent amount of Swedish but if you can get through that, it's worth it just for the interview with Jay-Z.  The second video is almost all in English so it might be a little more tolerable but neither one is that bad.  Either way, this is a really in depth behind the scenes look at the making of a classic Hip Hop record which is something you don't get to see very often.

I don't think you would ever see an American TV show giving this much time to just one song, unfortunately.  It's too bad because there is some really interesting stuff in here and I have a feeling that a lot of classic songs have some great stories just like this one.
