Vince Vaughn and Kevin James Comedy Roadshow (DECENT)

So I was at the Vince Vaughn and Kevin James Comedy Roadshow last night at the Orpheum in Boston.  I never go out on Monday nights but the tickets were a gift for my b-day so it was cool.  I wasn't sure what to expect since I knew Vince Vaughn and Kevin James would not be doing stand up and I had never heard of the other guys but I went in being optimistic.

Other than the fact that James and Vaughn were fairly unfunny and basically just hosted and did a few skits, the whole show was pretty solid.  They had a funny breakdown of how gay Top Gun really is complete with movie clips but for the most part they were just winging it.  Meh.

The first comedian, Richie Minervini was a mumbled mouth fuck with a terrible New York accent so I don't even know if he was funny or not.  I couldn't understand a damn thing he said.  Painful.

The second dude, Owen Benjamin was hilarious.  He is one of those comedians that uses his musical talents but what makes him different  from the rest is that he's actually funny.  I couldn't find his exact act but I did find this video from a few years ago.  The ending is similar to what he still does using the piano. Solid.

The headliner was Steve Byrne who you may have seen in his Comedy Central special The Byrne Identity.  He is that skinny half Korean, half Irish dude who always wears a suit. I never knew his name but as soon as I saw him and heard his voice, I remembered that I liked his act.  He makes fun of his background and is fairly self deprecating but also calls out any and every other ethnic group which was hilarious and refreshing since everyone is so PC these days.  He was funnier than I remembered and definitely had the crowd laughing their asses off.  This is one of the segments he still had in his act that was pretty good:

I wouldn't say it was the best lineup I've ever seen but it was certainly funnier than expected.  If they replaced the first guy and James and Vaughn actually did something funny, it would be a killer show.  Either way, if you have a chance to check the show out in your city sometime soon, I think you should do it.  There's certainly enough laughs to make it worthwhile.  Here are the remaining shows on the tour:

Wallingford, CT (11/2); Westbury, NY (11/3); New York City (11/5); Atlantic City, NJ (11/6), Philadelphia, PA (11/7); Washington D.C. (11/8); Atlanta, GA (11/11); Memphis, TN (11/12); Dallas, TX (11/13); Houston, TX (11/14), San Antonio, TX (11/15); Phoenix, AZ (11/17) and San Diego, CA (11/18).
