After having great success and critical acclaim with the Air Max LeBron VII, Nike is coming with this? Yikes. This basically looks like a throwaway version of last year's shoe. It's like they are trying to ride on the success of a prior model by just adding a few minor updates just like the auto makers do. You gotta try harder than that. That's some weak shit.
I hope that first picture is just a bad angle. That is just way too thick and fat to be a good looking shoe. It looks more like a hiking boot than anything else. It's not a bad shoe overall but I was expecting much more for LeBron's next signature shoe. Nike either needs to go back to the lab with this one or at least make a few changes before they release it next season. Otherwise, they are going to see a serious decline in sales.
I say this every summer when I start seeing highlights from the Sprite Slam Dunk Showdown but why the hell can't we just let these guys be in the dunk contest instead of NBA players? The best dunkers in the league never actually enter and even when the occasional player with some name recognition does do it, they usually suck or go half assed so they don't get hurt. Enough of that madness.
We need some new blood in the competition that is willing to go all out and try some shit that we've never seen before. Just take a look at this video above. These guys are doing video game dunks like it's nothing. I don't give a shit if NBA fans have never heard of any of them. Watching these guys throw down some dunks that most people thought weren't even possible would be much more entertaining than watching someone like Shannon Brown (who's actually a good dunker) put up a garbage effort like he did this year.
I would rather be entertained and amazed than disappointed and bored. I can't be the only one that thinks this, right? Just look at the highlights from this year's Slam Dunk Contest and tell me you don't agree. That shit was PAINFULLY boring. It's time to try something new...
I have no idea what this video has to do with Converse or sneakers but it's a decent behind the scenes look at how Cudi came up as a youngster and gives us a look at how his career started back home. I guess this is part of a new collaboration called Three Artists. One Song. That Converse is putting together. Here are some more details:
"This summer, Converse further activates its commitment to being a catalyst for creativity by bringing together three extraordinary musicians from different genres to form a unique collaboration known as Three Artists. One Song. The nucleus of this initiative is a brand new, all original track featuring Bethany Cosentino of Best Coast, Rostam Batmanglij of Vampire Weekend and Kid Cudi that will be released this July and available to music fans globally via free download at converse.com and authorized Converse websites around the world. In addition to collaborating on the track, each of the artists also participated in the creation of the music video, which will be released later this summer.
"Kid Cudi is one of today's most innovative artists," said Geoff Cottrill, Chief Marketing Officer of Converse. "His eclectic style and ability to weave timeless samples effortlessly into his own music sets him apart from his peers. At Converse, we always champion creativity and if his past collaborative efforts are any indication, the creative freshness he will bring to the new single is sure to make the song an instant summer hit."
In anticipation of the song's release, each artist is also featured in a short film, with the second installment exploring Kid Cudi's life, and the influences that make him one of today's most pioneering artists. The film captures Cudi exploring his native Cleveland and provides a unique look into his artistic journey."
This shit is hot! Consequence and Styles P brought the heat on this one. Just in case you couldn't tell, that was an interpretation of The Police's classic hit "Don't Stand So Close to Me" in the hook. If you didn't know that though, you need to step your old school music knowledge up a bit because that was a really obvious one. I love how they took a happy and fairly uptempo pop song and flipped it into something grimy.
WTF is up with Consequence's teeth by the way? Cot damn! That is a solid mouthful of white chicklets hanging from those gums! Dude needs to shave those things down with a nail file or something. He looks like an f'n beaver with a set of dentures. I think if he could fix that grill a bit, people would pay a lot more attention to him because the guy's got skills. Right now, he's just scaring all women and children within a half mile radius.
NBA fans have seen a ridiculous amount of highlights of John Wall recently because of the NBA Draft but all of those were from his one year at Kentucky. I thought it would be cool to show a few videos of how nasty this kid was back in High School just a few years ago.
It's kind of crazy to see him dominating like this even though a lot of those guys in the videos are probably D1 stars now. It's like he was playing against middle schoolers or something. He just couldn't be stopped. I can't wait to watch more of this kid as he progresses over the next few years in the NBA. Dude is nice.
This audio clip from The Howard Stern Show is from a few weeks ago but I'm just hearing it now because I basically stopped listening to Stern in favor of the Opie & Anthony Show. Stern has had about 2 weeks worth of new shows this summer at best and is now going on vacation for 2 weeks for the 4th of July. It's a freakin' joke. Sweet gig that is.
Anyway, this clip was pretty funny since he was calling out Will and Jada Smith for sounding like crazy mofos on Oprah. As much as I've always been a fan of Will over the years, I have to agree with Howard here. Will is talking some serious bullshit and sounds completely insane. "2+2 is whatever you want it to be." Um, no it can't be. Nice try though.
Something just happens to these guys in Hollywood once they hit a certain level of fame and money. They become a part of this super exclusive club where they start getting brainwashed by other rich bastards and end up staying stupid shit like this. I kind of feel bad for them because they are so far removed from reality but then I realize how rich they are and stop that pretty quickly. Shit is ridiculous.
Although some of the kids in this video are serious nerds (see the Asian kid that won't shut the hell up), this is still a decent look at what makes sneakerheads tick. It's all about the hunt for those elusive kicks and the high you get from scoring a pair or by making people "breakin' necks" while staring at the sneakers on your feet.
It must be nice to be a college kid with a ton of free time or an unemployed jerk with money and be able to camp out all day long like this. Some of us have jobs and shit. Enjoy it while you can, suckas. Pretty soon you'll be buying kicks on the internet for a premium like the rest of us who actually have lives and can't do this all the damn time...
